Monaco Grand Prix: Where to Stay, How to Get There

Hotels in the Principality have been full for months. The real question lies elsewhere: where to sleep on the coast, and how to reach the circuit without spending the whole morning on it.

The calendar

The 2027 dates

The 2027 Monaco Grand Prix runs from 4 to 6 June, with a sprint format for the first time. The Automobile Club de Monaco lists the event from 3 to 6 June.

For a long time, the Grand Prix was held at the end of May. It now takes place in early June. If you used to book for the last week of May, adjust your plans.

Where to sleep

Staying outside Monaco

During the Grand Prix, hotels in Monaco are fully booked months ahead, and whatever is left comes at a premium. Staying outside is not a second-best option. It is often the best choice, provided the journey is well organised.

  • Beaulieu, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Roquebrune, Menton: less than thirty minutes
  • Nice: about half an hour by road, about the same by train
  • Cannes: about an hour by road, depending on traffic

Nice is the simplest compromise: the airport, the train and the helicopter are all within reach. Cannes suits those who go straight from the Festival to the Grand Prix, or who want a villa for the week and only go to the circuit on some days.

On the ground

What happens to the Principality

During the Grand Prix, part of Monaco is closed to traffic for the circuit. Boulevard Albert Ier, Quai des États-Unis and Avenue d’Ostende are part of the track. The streets that stay open take all the remaining traffic.

Parking follows suit. Town centre car parks apply special rates on race days, and the Automobile Club de Monaco directs visitors to the Les Salines and Saint-Antoine car parks at the western entrance to the town. Driving in and looking for a space on race morning means starting the day in traffic jams.

By road

Arriving with a chauffeur

A chauffeur is still the most comfortable solution, especially for a group or a long day. But the car follows the same rules as everyone else: it cannot enter the circuit perimeter.

In practice, we drop you outside the perimeter, we leave earlier than on an ordinary day, and the chauffeur waits outside for the return journey. You have a direct number to call on your way out. We plan all this when you book, not the day before.

On a race day, hourly hire is simpler than two transfers. Leaving times shift, and the chauffeur does not have to drive back from Nice to collect you. Our guide to hourly chauffeur hire sets out the rates.

The alternatives

The train and the helicopter

The train

Nice and Monaco are about half an hour apart by train. During the Grand Prix, check the evening timetable before the race. It is fast and predictable, with one caveat. When the race ends, everyone leaves at the same time, and the platforms fill up.

The helicopter

Seven minutes of flight between Nice airport and the Fontvieille heliport. A seat on a shared flight costs considerably less than a private flight. It is the fastest way to reach Monaco from the airport. The chauffeur waits for you at the heliport.

Booking

The timeline to keep to

The Grand Prix is the week when the best cars and the best chauffeurs on the French Riviera go first. Allow several months ahead for a chauffeur or a prestige car. That week, last-minute requests often cannot be met.

Give us your dates, your address on the coast and the days you are going to the circuit. We suggest the right vehicle and a realistic departure time for each day.

Frequently asked questions

Where should you stay for the Monaco Grand Prix?

Hotels in the Principality are booked very early for that week. Many visitors stay in Nice, Beaulieu, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Roquebrune, Menton or Cannes and travel to Monaco each day.

Can you get to the circuit by chauffeur-driven car?

Yes, but part of Monaco is closed to traffic for the circuit. Drop-off is outside the perimeter, and departures are earlier than usual. The chauffeur waits for you outside for the return journey.

How long does the train take from Nice to Monaco?

The train is one of the simplest options between Nice and Monaco. During the Grand Prix, check the SNCF timetable for race day, which may be adjusted.

How long does the helicopter take from Nice to Monaco?

The flight between Nice airport and the Fontvieille heliport is very short. The price depends on the operator and the type of flight, shared or private; it is given in the quote.

When should you book a chauffeur for the Grand Prix?

Several months ahead. It is the week when the best cars and the best chauffeurs on the French Riviera go first.
