Four pricing models exist side by side on the market. Here is how they work, and the one we have chosen.
The principle
Four models, not one
Luxury concierge services charge in four different ways. None is better than another in itself. What matters is knowing which one you are being offered, and exactly what it covers.
One-off
A commission on services
A commission on services is the most common model for organising a one-off event: a wedding, a reception, a private party. It is expressed as a percentage of the total budget, at a rate that varies from one house to another, often with set-up fees agreed in advance.
Year-round
The subscription, or membership card
An annual subscription, or membership card, gives unlimited access over the year. Its cost depends on the level of service: a plan built around travel and restaurant bookings is a different thing from one that includes managing household staff or second homes.
What a subscription almost never covers is the bills of the suppliers booked through it. The hotel, private jet or chauffeur are added separately, on top of the concierge fee.
By the stay
The fixed fee and the built-in margin
A fixed fee per stay sets a single amount, known before you arrive, for the whole length of the stay. It is the easiest model to compare from one company to another, because the figure does not change along the way.
A margin built into the price is not shown separately. The concierge pays its suppliers, adds its margin, and gives you one final price. That is not a dishonest model in itself, but it stops you knowing what you pay for the coordination itself.

Another model
Villa rental management
Villa rental management follows a model of its own. The concierge takes a percentage of the rental income generated, rather than a fixed fee or a commission on one-off services. This rate varies with the manager and the services included, in return for handling bookings, welcoming guests and the technical upkeep of the property.
It is a different model from a concierge service for a stay, because the service revolves around the property rather than the visiting client.

Before you sign
Three questions to compare two quotes
Does the price shown already include the suppliers, or is it added on top of their bills? A concierge subscription almost never covers the price of the hotel, private jet or chauffeur booked through it. Those bills come on top, separately.
What happens if you cancel, or if you do not use everything included in the fee? The answer must be written in the quote, not given verbally.
Does the price change with how complex the stay is? A simple week and a week with a boat, a villa and several vehicles do not take the same amount of coordination. A price that never changes, whatever the request, often hides a bare minimum service.
